WeiiGo SMS safety alerts: how people opt in
WeiiGo never sends a text message to anyone before they opt in themselves. The person who will get the texts ticks an unchecked box in the WeiiGo app. The traveller who invited them cannot tick it for them.
The program
WeiiGo (www.weiigo.com) is a travel safety app by C2S4 LLC. A WeiiGo user (the traveller) can add people they trust as trusted contacts. Each text is sent on behalf of one traveller, and only when that traveller does something in the app. Nothing is scheduled or sent in bulk, and there is no marketing.
A trusted contact who opted in may receive:
- one opt-in confirmation, straight after they opt in;
- an SOS alert with the traveller's location, and an "I'm safe" follow-up;
- the traveller's location, when the traveller shares it;
- expiring links to a travel document or an SOS audio recording the traveller shared.
How someone opts in: three steps
1. The traveller adds a trusted contact. WeiiGo does not text that person.
The traveller enters the person's email address or phone number on the Invite contact screen. WeiiGo sends that person no text message. If the traveller entered an email address, WeiiGo emails the invite link. If they entered only a phone number, the app gives the traveller the link to send personally, for example from their own Messages or WhatsApp.

WeiiGo never texts them first. If you give only a phone number, you send the invite link yourself. On the Accept screen, they choose whether to get WeiiGo texts.
2. The person opens the link and chooses, on the Accept invite screen
The link opens the WeiiGo app on the Accept invite screen. That screen has an unchecked box with the disclosure below. The person decides whether to tick it. When they tick it, they confirm or correct their own mobile number. Accepting the invite without ticking the box is allowed, and then WeiiGo sends them no texts at all.

3. One confirmation text, then only alerts
If the person ticked the box, WeiiGo sends them one text to confirm the opt-in:

After that, they receive texts only when the traveller triggers one of the messages listed above.

How consent is recorded
WeiiGo records the opt-in on the trusted-contact record, with the time and the mobile number the person confirmed. WeiiGo texts only that number. If the traveller later changes the contact's number, WeiiGo stops texting until the person accepts a new invite and ticks the box again. We do not share opt-in or consent information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing.
