The Safety tab

Safety is where you get help fast. Under the big SOS button are four actions: Call local emergency services, Find nearby medical help, My Health Card and Share my location. Below them are your Emergency contacts and the Local emergency numbers, and then More Safety Tools: the check-in timer, the police and your embassy, what's around you, and safety tips. Emergency features are free. The same screen opens from SOS on Home.

In an emergency

Send an SOS to your contacts

Use SOS when you need the people you trust to know you are in trouble, right now.

1. Tap Safety in the tab bar. The big SOS button is in the red area at the top, under it Emergency Support.
2. Press and hold SOS. Keep your finger down for 3 seconds.
3. Watch the ring fill. The line under it counts down: Sending SOS in 3... A line under it says who will be alerted, for example Alerts Maria and Tom.
4. Changed your mind? Lift your finger before the ring fills, or tap Cancel.
5. When the ring fills, your alert goes out. WeiiGo then gets ready to call local emergency services for you.

Who is alerted: your trusted contacts who are marked Emergency contact, have Receives SOS alerts on, and have accepted your invite. Receives SOS alerts is on unless you turned it off: tap the contact in Trusted contacts to check, directly under Emergency contact. Each one gets a message saying you sent an SOS, with a map link to where you are. It shows in their WeiiGo app, as a notification if they allow notifications from WeiiGo. It also goes by SMS, WhatsApp or email if you turned those on for them. SMS also needs their own OK: WeiiGo texts them only if they ticked Text me WeiiGo safety alerts in the WeiiGo app, when they accepted your invite or later, or allowed texts in the WeiiSafe app. Texts go only to their own number, checked with a code.

Good to know

• SOS needs an internet connection. If it cannot go out, you see SOS NOT sent with Retry and Send SMS to contacts. WeiiGo still opens your phone to call emergency services, because a call needs no internet.
• The map link is only added when your phone knows where you are.
• If you have no trusted contacts yet, a yellow note says No trusted contacts yet — your alert won't reach anyone. Add a contact. Tap it to add one.
• An SOS also turns on live location sharing, so contacts who can see your location can follow you while your trip is live.

Call emergency services without sending an SOS

If you only need to phone for help, you do not have to alert your contacts.

1. Tap Safety in the tab bar.
2. Tap Call local emergency services, the red button under the SOS area. It shows the number, for example (112).
3. Your phone's dialer opens with the number. You confirm the call: WeiiGo never calls for you.

Good to know

• This does not alert your trusted contacts. To alert them too, press and hold SOS.
• If WeiiGo isn't sure of the number where you are, it uses 112 and says Not confirmed for this area.

Call local emergency services after your SOS

Right after your alert goes out, WeiiGo opens your phone to call the local emergency number, so help is one tap away.

1. Your alert has gone. The screen says Trusted contacts have been alerted.
2. It counts down from 3: Opening your phone to call 112 (Spain)…
3. At zero, your phone's dialer opens with the number. Tap to call.
4. Don't want to call? Tap Cancel call before it reaches zero.

Good to know

• WeiiGo never places a call by itself. On iPhone, your phone asks before it calls. On Android, the number is filled in for you to tap call.
• Cancel call only stops the call. Your contacts have already been alerted.
• For an SOS from the Safety tab, WeiiGo dials the same all-emergencies number the Call local emergency services button shows, for example 112.
• If WeiiGo isn't sure of the number where you are, it uses 112 and says Not confirmed for this area.

See who got your alert

After the call, Emergency in Progress stays open. It shows how long ago your alert went and who was told.

1. Check the timer. It counts the time since your alert.
2. Tap Trusted contacts alerted to see who was told. Each contact shows how they were reached, for example SMS · App.
3. To call again, tap Call 112 again.
4. To alert everyone again, tap Send alert again.
5. Need someone nearby to understand you? Scroll down and tap Show emergency message.
6. When the emergency is over, tap I'm done.

Good to know

• If nobody could be reached, the screen says so. Tap Send SMS to contacts to text them from your phone, or Add a trusted contact.
• WeiiGo can't see when someone reads your alert. If you can, call as well.
• Scroll down to Call for help for the local Police and Ambulance numbers (and Fire, where the country has its own fire number).

Tell your contacts you're safe

When you're OK again, let everyone know so they stop worrying.

1. On Emergency in Progress, tap I'm done.
2. Are you safe now? opens.
3. Tap I'm safe. Your contacts get an all-clear.
4. Or tap Keep sharing my location to keep sharing where you are.
5. Or tap Close without notifying to leave without telling anyone.

Good to know

• If the all-clear can't go out, you see Couldn't send your all-clear. Check your connection and try again.
• If your SOS was never sent, I'm done just closes the screen. There is no one to tell.

Call the local police or ambulance

WeiiGo shows the emergency numbers for the country you are in, so you don't have to look them up.

1. Tap Safety in the tab bar.
2. Tap Local emergency numbers. Its line says Police and ambulance.
3. Under Your current location, tap Police or Ambulance. Where the country has its own fire number, tap Fire.
4. Your phone's dialer opens with the number. Tap to call.
5. Not sure which one? Tap Not sure who to call? Help me choose, pick what you need, then tap the call button.
6. Need another country? Type its name in Search a country, then tap it to call.

Good to know

• If WeiiGo doesn't know the exact numbers for where you are, it shows general numbers marked Not confirmed for this area. Tap Use my location to try again.
• The search finds countries with verified numbers. If yours isn't there, WeiiGo shows general numbers. Check locally before relying on them.
• Scroll down to More Help to Contact your embassy, or tap Medical to find hospitals nearby.

Show a message in the local language

If you can't speak the language, show your phone to someone nearby, or let it read the message aloud.

1. Tap Safety, then Local emergency numbers.
2. Scroll to More Help and tap Show emergency message. It opens in the local language and says you are in danger.
3. To switch language, tap one, for example English. Tap More for others.
4. Tap the speaker to have your phone read it aloud. Tap it again to stop.
5. Tap Show full screen so the message fills the screen. Tap anywhere to close it.

Good to know

• You can also open it from Emergency in Progress after an SOS, and from Trusted contacts.
• The speaker shows only when your phone has a voice for that language.
• On a slow connection, the voice can take a few seconds to start. If it is slower than that, your phone's own voice reads the message instead.
• If there's no translation for the country yet, the message shows in English.
• Call emergency calls the local number. Copy message + location copies the message with a map link to where you are.

Change what the message says

Pick what is happening, and WeiiGo writes the message for you.

1. On the message screen, tap Change message.
2. Tap each type that fits, for example Police and Being followed.
3. Tap Show message. The button shows how many you picked.

Finding help nearby

Find medical help nearby

See hospitals, clinics and pharmacies near you, with a call button and directions on each.

1. Tap Safety in the tab bar.
2. Tap Find nearby medical help. Medical Facilities opens and looks near where you are.
3. Tap Call to phone a place, or Maps for directions.
4. Only want places open now? Tap Open now.

Good to know

• WeiiGo looks within 10 km. If there is nothing, you see Nothing within 10 km.
• Somewhere else, or no location? Tap Search another place and type a City, address or landmark.
• If the search can't load, tap Reload facilities, or Open in Maps to search in your maps app.
• In danger now? Use SOS or Call local emergency services instead.

Find the police or your embassy

See the nearest police stations, and how to reach your own country's embassy.

1. Tap Safety in the tab bar.
2. Under More Safety Tools, tap Police and Embassy. WeiiGo uses your location to look.
3. Find the nearest under Police, nearest first.
4. Tap Maps to get directions, or Call to phone the station.
5. For your own country's help abroad, scroll to Embassy and tap Contact your embassy.

Good to know

• WeiiGo needs your location. If it can't find you, tap Open settings or Try again. Open in Maps searches in your maps app instead.
• It looks within 10 km. If there is nothing, you see Nothing within 10 km.

Read safety tips for where you are

Learn the local emergency numbers, common scams and laws worth knowing before you need them.

1. Tap Safety in the tab bar.
2. Tap Safety tips. Local knowledge opens for where you are now, or for your trip if you haven't left yet.
3. To call for help, tap a number under the safety snapshot, for example Police.
4. Under Start with These, tap a topic such as Scams & areas to watch to open it. Tap it again to close it.
5. Scroll to More Topics for the rest.

WeiiGo Pro — With Pro, you also get a safety score and a safety briefing for the place. On Free you see Safety scores are part of Pro. Emergency features stay free. The numbers and topics are free.

Good to know

• Traveling, but want your trip's destination instead? Tap the Show … instead button under the place name.
• Scroll down for About This Information. Tap View Full Country Information for the U.S. Department of State's official advice for the country. It is free.
• The same page opens from Local knowledge on Around you.

My Health Card

Make your Health Card

Keep the medical details a doctor would need in an emergency, ready to show in the local language.

1. Tap Safety, then My Health Card. It's also in More.
2. Tap Create card.
3. Fill in what you want: Name, Date of birth, Blood type, Allergies, Diabetes, Conditions, Medications and an Emergency contact. Every field is optional.
4. Tap Save.

Good to know

• Your card stays on this phone, encrypted, and is never sent to WeiiGo. Signing out leaves it on the phone. To erase it, tap Edit, then Delete card.
• Can't find an allergy or condition in the list? Choose Other (type it) and type it in your own words.

Show your card in the local language

1. Open My Health Card and tap Show translated card.
2. It opens in the language of the country you're in. To change it, tap another language.
3. Tap Read aloud to have your phone say it.
4. Tap Print wallet card or Share wallet card for a card you can carry.

Good to know

• What you typed in your own words is translated by your phone and marked † Machine-translated, please verify.
• WeiiGo can't put the card on your Lock Screen. Tap Medical ID on Your iPhone, at the bottom of the card's page, to see how to set up Apple's Medical ID, which can.

Check-in timer

Start a check-in timer

A check-in timer reminds you to tell someone you're OK, for example on a solo hike or a late night out.

1. Tap Safety in the tab bar.
2. Scroll to More Safety Tools and tap Check-in timer.
3. Pick how long: 1h, 3h, or Custom time to set your own with the slider.
4. Under Choose your contacts, tick the people to tell.
5. Under Message and delivery, tap Change, then tap SMS share sheet or WeiiGo push.
6. Tap Start timer. The banner shows when WeiiGo will check on you.

Good to know

• Only contacts who have accepted your invite can be chosen.
• SMS share sheet opens a text for you to send. WeiiGo push notifies contacts who also use WeiiGo.
• You can change the message in More, under My Profile, in Default check-in message.
• Turn on notifications for WeiiGo, or you won't get the reminder when the timer ends.
• If a timer from another device or app is already running, a line says so, for example A check-in timer from another device ends at 18:30. Starting a new timer replaces it.

Check in early, or add time

While the timer runs, the Check-in timer screen shows a ring counting down.

1. Tap Safety. Under More Safety Tools, the Check-in timer card says when you'll be checked on, for example Running · check-in at 18:30.
2. Tap Check-in timer to see the time remaining.
3. Need longer? Tap Add time (+15 min).
4. Back early? Tap I'm OK — check in now. WeiiGo sends your check-in message the way you chose, and ends the timer.
5. To end the timer without sending anything, tap Stop active timer, then Stop.

Good to know

• Each tap on Add time (+15 min) adds 15 minutes. If the time is already up, it gives you 15 minutes from now.

Check in when the timer ends

When the time is up, WeiiGo sends you a reminder. Tap it to check in.

1. Tap the reminder, or open Safety and tap Check-in timer.
2. The screen says Time to check in and the time to answer by.
3. Tap I'm OK to tell your contacts you're fine. It sends your message with a link to where you are, then starts the timer again.
4. Or tap Skip to send nothing and start the timer again.
5. Or tap Stop checking in, then Stop checking in again to end the timer.

Good to know

• In WeiiGo 33.35 or later, if you don't answer within 15 minutes of the timer ending, WeiiGo alerts the contacts you chose. Contacts who use WeiiGo get a notification, and contacts with an email address get an email. The alert links to where you were when you last set the timer, if your phone knew.
• Contacts with only a phone number are not alerted. WeiiGo needs an internet connection when you start the timer, so it knows to alert them.
• Tapping I'm OK, Skip or Stop checking in cancels that alert once your answer reaches WeiiGo, and so does signing out of WeiiGo, but only with a connection. Without a connection, your contacts may still be alerted: WeiiGo says so on screen, and your answer is sent when you're back online with WeiiGo open — if that's after the 15 minutes, your contacts may already have been alerted. If you need help now, use SOS.
• If your contacts were already alerted, the screen says Check-In Missed and when they were alerted, so you can tell them you're OK. Tap Share live location to let them see where you are. If none of them could be reached, it says We couldn't reach any of your contacts when your check-in was missed. Check their details in Trusted contacts.
• With SMS share sheet, the message is only sent when you tap send in your messages app.

Sharing where you are

Share your live location

Let trusted contacts follow where you are on a map, for an hour, three hours, or until you stop.

Who sees it: only the contacts you tick. Each one gets a notification in their WeiiGo app saying you started sharing, and can see where you are until sharing ends.

1. Tap Safety, then Share my location. A sheet called Share live location opens.
2. Tick the people who can see where you are.
3. Under How long to share?, tap 1h, 3h or Until I turn it off.
4. Tap Start sharing.
5. To stop early, tap Share my location again, then Stop sharing.

Good to know

• Only contacts who use WeiiGo and have accepted your invite can see your live location. Others can get a one-off map link from Share a pin.
• While you share, the card on the Safety tab says how long for, for example Sharing until 19:40.
• An SOS keeps sharing on until you turn it off.

Around you

See what's around you

Get tips for where you are and, with Pro, a safety score.

1. Tap Safety and scroll to More Safety Tools.
2. Tap Around you.
3. Tap Local knowledge for tips about where you are.

WeiiGo Pro — With Pro, Around you starts with a safety score for where you are. Tap it to see how it's worked out. On Free you see Safety scores are part of Pro. Emergency features stay free.

Trusted contacts

Open your trusted contacts

Trusted contacts are the people your SOS alerts and check-ins go to. Add at least one before you travel.

1. Tap Safety in the tab bar.
2. Tap the people icon at the top right of the red area.
3. See everyone in Your circle. Contacts marked Emergency contact show SOS; open one to check Receives SOS alerts.
4. Tap Invite to add someone new.

Good to know

• You can also open Trusted contacts from More, then My Profile, under Safety.
• Emergency contacts, under the four actions on Safety, lists who your SOS notifies and how.

Invite a trusted contact

Send an invite so the person can join your trusted contacts.

1. Type a Display name, and a Relationship (optional) if you like.
2. Add their Email or Phone. One is enough.
3. Leave Emergency contact on, so they get your SOS alerts.
4. Choose whether they can Share itinerary and Share location.
5. Tap Send invite.
6. If WeiiGo didn't email them, send the link yourself: tap Send by text, Share or Copy.
7. Tap Done.

Good to know

• A contact gets your SOS alerts only after they accept your invite. Until then they show as Pending, with Resend.
• Resend makes a new invite link, and the old one stops working. If you added only a phone number, WeiiGo shows you the new link to send yourself.
• Your SOS reaches them in the WeiiGo app. To also reach them by SMS, WhatsApp or email, tap their name in Trusted contacts and turn those on under Alert channels.
• WeiiGo never texts the number you add. They get SMS from WeiiGo only if they tick Text me WeiiGo safety alerts on the Accept invite screen, for their own number. If WeiiGo hasn't checked that number with a code, it asks them to tap Verify your number first. See SMS consent.
• Already accepted but didn't tick it? Tap their name in Trusted contacts, then Ask … to allow texts. WeiiGo asks them with a notification in their app, never a text. You can ask once every 7 days.
• Changed the email or phone of someone who has accepted? WeiiGo asks them to confirm the new one first. Until they do, alerts keep going to the details they already confirmed. WeiiGo doesn't text a new number until they agree to texts again, and you can ask them to.

Stop being someone's trusted contact

If someone shared their trips with you and you no longer want to be on their list, you can remove them.

1. Open Trusted contacts.
2. Find the person under Sharing with you.
3. Tap Remove.
4. Read the message, then tap Remove again to confirm.

Good to know

• You stop seeing what they shared, and you stop getting their safety alerts. They are told.
• If it doesn't work, pull down to refresh and try again.
